i am thinking on going crossfire soon but unsure which psu to buy , is the psu listed below anygood ?

http://www.overclockers.co.uk/showproduct.php?prodid=CA-004-PP&groupid=701&catid=123&subcat=1104

now for the second question lol , i have changed nearly all of my hardware just lately . i have in the last few months changed to the items listed below

1: Biostar TA790GX 128M

2: AMD Phenom II X3 Tri Core 720 Black Edition

3: Kingston HyperX 4GB (2x2GB) DDR2 8500C5 1066MHz

4: Seagate Barracuda 7200.12 500GB

i game at 1680x1050 in all games but i get stuttering and no matter what i try nothing works , turn on AA and things go from bad to worse . i have a sapphire 4870 512 and i am thinking on getting a second 4870 512 , will this get rid of the stuttering or not ? . also been looking at the 4870x2 and the gtx285 or the sapphire 4870 vapour-x or the 4890 lol , but i am not sure which road to take but prefer to say ati if possible . this will take me a few months to get the money together for all of the items , first i will replace my seasonic 550w to something that will be enough for the final coice i make . all advice welcome ;)

Brilliant PSU - I have one in my rig (the black version) and its awesome. Its made with some of the best components around and gets top marks in the reviews. It should give you plenty of power for a heavily overclocked, dual GPU system.

As for the stuttering, i'm not sure.

i have been in contact with sapphire about the stuttering and they said a bios update may fix it , so i tried it and it made a little difference . in the end they said go back to retailer for rma but the local retailer i got this from (before i started to use ocuk) said that nothing is wrong with the gfx card

Is it at all times you get stuttering? or just in certain games/apps? if the latter try vsync, you shouldnt have any problems at that res
Alternatively uninstall drivers, boot into safe mode, run driversweeper then reboot and install latest 9.5 drivers, leave all settings on auto, and dont OC and see if that fixes it

done that with the drivers (fresh install of vista) and tried vsync , main games i have problems with are listed below

1: fallout3
2: farcry2
3: stalker clearskies
4: timeshift
5: fear2
6: halflife2 ep2

it's getting to the point of scrapping my system tbh , all settings are at stock speeds

A 550W PSU should be plenty for your setup + a 4890. If you plan on adding a 2nd card in the future, a new PSU like the one you linked to would be required though.

If it's the S12Energy+ (550 Watt) then yes, with ease.

yes it's the S12Energy+550 80+ , according to the mobo manual the highest gpu in crossfire is the 4870 . does this mean the 4870 is the highest i can put in while running crossfire mode ?

The 4890 probably didn't exist when the manual was printed, 2 4890 should be fine on your mobo.

The PSU, which is rated 550w sustained power, 650w peak is on the boarder line for 2 4890. Would be ok, as long as the rest of the system isn't pulling a lot of power.

You'd need to use 2 x 2 molex to 1 PCI-E power adaptors.

If it was me, I'd replace the PSU for crossfire as I like a bit of overhead. :)

GPU first imho - your current one will handle 1 4890 fine and you get better framerates in games (hopefully with no stuttering). Then get the new PSU before you add a second.

roll on the 3rd of june , not got enough £££ till then lol . i wonder if any more price cuts on the 4890 ( hoping to much i know lol )

i do not think so cause crysis warhead does not stutter , i also use the amd fusion which turns off the av etc . also i have been looking at the gtx275 and gtx285 but is my psu enough for these ? , or should i just get the 4890 ?
