i am building a new PC gradually over the months where i am paid :). im now down to just the CPU, motherboard and RAM.

i was looking at these two motherboards:

http://www.overclockers.co.uk/showproduct.php?prodid=MB-281-AS&groupid=701&catid=5&subcat=1155

i know ones DDR3 but is their any point on a ddr3 motherboard on a socket 775 CPU? which motherboard should i go for?

i was looking at the dual core processors and was going to buy the e7500, but now i am looking at the new quad core cpu's, and was looking at the q8200.

which one would be better for me, or should i spend the bit extra for a more powerful cpu

lastly th RAM, because of the two motherboards i have been looking at, i need to look at both ddr2 and ddr3 RAM, but i cannot decide this untill im set on the right motherboard.

i am mainly building a budget gaming rig, a bit of overclocking, and some moderate gaming (FC2, crysis ect)

any other comment or suggestions to what bundle of cpu, motherboard and ram i should go for will be greatly appreciated.

i am specifically looking at intel because i prefer it, i am a very visual buyer and the AM3 motherboards just don't look nice, but also i have never had nothing but intel.

If you're buying it over the course months I'd go for socket 1366 or wait for the i5s. Socket 775 is on the way out.

i no i have just created this post saying i want intel but looking at other threads AMD maybe better for gaming (and my visual buying brain will have to shutup)

but will i see a noticable difference in a tri core amd processor? in gaming ?

I have the blackops.
It needs a lot of tweaking and work before you will be up and running.
On the plus side - the time spent usually pays off and you are left with some pretty nice clocks.
If you are into your clocking then its a bargain.
Do head over the xtremesystems forums though. Have a wade though the posts on the blackops. Might make or break the deal but its best you are aware of some of the quirks before you commit.

Not really sure if DDR3 or 2 is right for you, but all i know is that I wanted to go DDR3 cause its kewl :D also the blakops is like NOM with memory so splash out and get some good stickx

hope that helps :)

Socket 775 is on the way out.

No its not, it will be about for atleast 2 years, by that i mean they will still be producing cpu's, how do i know this, well lets say i know someone that works at intel.

Anyways onto the original question both motherboards are extremly good, if your after a good overclocking board, then both will do well, just the blackops will allow you to tweak settings a lot more then the asus will, some times a good thing sometimes a bad thing lol.

That being said the P45 chipset is newer then the X48, and generally overclocks a little better to.

If it was me making this choice and it is a tough one to make because that blackops board is one hell of a beast when used right. I personally would go for the asus mobo and some top quality ddr2, even though the other mobo is cheaper, the added cost of getting top quality ddr3 kinda equals out the price.

Now onto cpu, again tough choice. More and more games will make use of quadcore cpus so it may be best to go quadcore.

The Q8200 is a nice entry lvl quad and will easily handle everything u throw at it, and is only £10 more then the E7500, so thats like £5 each for the extra 2 cores. That being said if you could find the extra £50 or so to go for one of the Q9's with 12mb of cache then that would be a better idea, as the extra cache would be really nice in games and anything else.

The blackops board is very cheap for the performance but from what ive read it is quite a complicated board to overclock with, if you know what your doing though its one of the best out there!

I'm trying to decide whether or not i should wait till the new chips come out or buy a 775 upgrade now, probably gonna wait though.

when are the new chips out? and of course is their a price on them, because intel cpu's seem to start out life rather expensive

^ intel's new chipset P55 wil b out by nxt month, and its said that it wil b priced ~100$,so lets wait and c,
and mobo choice,i wud go wid Foxcom,as it runs DDR3,it wil b a nyce deal
