Just started getting interested in photography - more than just leave everything on auto and click...and so started messing about with the camera we had - a Canon PowerShot S50. Here are a few shots from a random trip out. All at ISO100, at various other settings.

I still need a lot of practise to get anywhere near some of the shots I see in here, but I'm quite pleased with the results for a starting point. Comments welcome :)

1) Very warm day, nice blue sky

2) That square rock. We tried to get to the top (we could have done it easily but didnt want to embarrass the rock and ruin its formidable reputation)

3) A Rocky Path, I quite like the shadows on this one

4) Close up of some leaf

I like the 3rd one, It is really good :)

The leaf would look better if there wasnt so much green and other stuff in the background. BTW Its a fern leaf if you didnt know :)

I dont do photography though i was just browsing through the forums that have new posts in them :o

Shot 1 seems to have a lack of subject matter?

I like shot 3 because it draws my eye towards the bottom of the valley.

With shot 2 I feel it might have been better if the rock was not "slap bang in the middle" of the shot? If the large left perpendicular side of the rock was nearer the left margin the smaller rocks on the right would draw your eyes to the right, maybe?

Shot 4, if you've seen one green leaf you've seem them all :) , just joking, I think the comment above covers it.

Most importantly did you enjoy taking them and did you learn anything?

Best of luck!

Not bad shots, but i feel some of them could do with some post processing:

Pic 1: This was the only one which i didnt like, it really needs some ground in at as at the moment it just looks quite plain and boring.

Pic 2: Good choice of subject but as has been said the composition is a bit off, it just doesnt look right being dead in the middle of the shot, try trying some different angles next time.

Pic 3: Really nice shot and i agree with you, the shadows on the rocks look really nice, great shot.

Pic 4: Nice shot, but it lacks a punch to it, maybe try at a different angle with some of the mountains in the background.

Just keep on taking and posting shots and you'll improve over time :)

Thanks for the feedback :)

Out of them all, I also like shot 3 the best. I think the hardest part is trying to find the right angles and stuff to make the shots look good. Shall have to concentrate more on that next time.

Compared to the crappy shots I started out with, I think its safe to say Im learning and improving as I'm going on.
