A few STALKER questions

Could somebody please explain the sequence of patching STALKER with the new patch and the other optional patches. I have read that the saved games are no longer recognised after patching,
Before I bought the game I seem to remember reading 100% positive comments on this forum, however having bought it I did a search on the forum and seemed to find 100% negative comments
From my experiences so far it looks to be an interesting game, completely ruined by the excessive number of keystrokes required to do most things. I can't see what is wrong with the old way of running over things to pick them up. Its really frustrating having to move about to get the Search Body prompt, if the mouse is moved. Are there any cheats to make the game more playable?

The first patch broke saved games, afaik subsequent patches were all save-game compatable. I know what you mean about the constant search body thing - dunno if there's a workaround though, maybe map a mouse button to a key?
A lot of the initial negativity was down to the extended delaying of patch 1.004 (I think), which was due to fix a pile of performance issues and bugs. Patches are always a source of entertainment, check the ubisoft forums for many amusing examples of people throwing the head whenever a delay is announced :) R6Vegas springs to mind immediately, also splinter-cell.
Stalker is a great game and well worth a look - it can be a bit annoying trying to get the right sequence of artefacts but it doesn't take too long to get sussed.
 
ive just started playing this game again.....its a pretty good game apart from the missions seem to break a bit easily.
i dont know what patch im on but i think its the latest as i just installed and updated a few days ago.
the first time i played it i couldnt really get into it so shelved it early...now ive got more into the game i only play this and wic demo online.
 
Which web site do you get the patch from?
I went to the producers web site and when I selected the patch, I was asked to pay to join fileplanet, in order to get the file. I have not registered the game yet so I do not know if this is the problem.

order of patching, looking at the file sizes i think you'll be okay going from the box version to the latest patch in one hit.. be sure to get the right patch though, 'Digital Download' are for people who brought the game from places such as direct2drive ect and 'International/Worldwide' is for non-US DVD's.
 
Quite enjoying Multiplayer on it now as I finished the game a while back. I think I am getting quite good! Managed to actually frag quite few last night and promoted to pro stalker!
 
Great game, all I'm playing atm. It has some rpg mixed in with it so you only have a limited amount of weight you can carry. This means you really need to be choosy on what you pickup and take with you, auto pickup just wouldn't work or you'd end up with a backpack of tat.

You can go straight from retail install to patch 1.004
