If you would like the file, edit, view,tools back in the explorer window just press the alt key , and alt again to hide it.

Here is a list of services I have disabled with no side effects:

Start > Run > services.msc

Distributed Link Tracking Client - Default: Automatic
- Network + Ntfs related, Set to Disabled

IKE and AuthIP IPsec Keying Modules - Default: Automatic
- Set to Disabled

IP Helper - Default: Automatic
- If you don't want ipv4 support, Set to Disabled

Print Spooler - Default: Automatic
- If no printer is present on the computer, Set to Disabled

Portable Device Enumerator Service - Default: Automatic
Windows Media Player Network Sharing Service - Default: Manual
- If no portable device is owned, Set to Disabled

Program Compatibility Assistant Service - Default: Automatic
- If you don't need it, Set to Disabled

Secondary Logon - Default: Automatic
- If you are only running vista with one user, Set to Disabled

Security Center - Default: Automatic (Delayed Start)
- If you don't use the Security Center, Set to Disabled

Server - Default: Automatic
- If you don't plan to send files or print them over a network, Set to Disabled

Table PC Input Service - Default: Automatic
- If you don't have a tablet PC, Set to Disabled

TCP/IP NetBIOS Helper - Default: Automatic
- If you won't be sharing files between computers, Set to Disabled

WebClient - Default: Automatic
- Set to Disabled

Windows Error Reporting Service - Default: Automatic
- If you don't use it, Set to Disabled

Windows Search
-I stopped this and set it to manual (I believe Outlook 2007 uses it)

Superfetch
-Stopped and set to disabled.

Offline Files
-Stopped and set to disabled.

After boot up I am showing a 550mb memory usage now :)

It's an optional choice :) Just as it is to actually send info to Microsoft when it prompts you too. Have it set up as you see fit.
