A Few Wii Questions

Hi,

I've picked up a few old gamecube controllers today, as I plan to pick up a Wii at some point to play retro games, just a few questions as I've never own a Wii before.

Can the controllers, control the menu on the Wii? as I don't plan to setup the motion sensor bar or the remotes.

When playing gamecube games on the Wii, do I need gamecube memory cards to save the game? can I save to a SD card instead?

you'll need a wii remote for the menu, found that out the hard way. I think gamecube games will only save to a gamecube memory card, but I'm not certain.
