Hi

I've suddenly had the urge to buy an xbox and I'm not sure what the differences in the models are.

What can I do on premium that I can't on an arcade model?

Is Premium the same as Pro and "with HDMI" that I've seen?

Do people still play Gears of WAr online or have I missed the party?

Can you improvise in Guitar Hero or do you always have to follow the song?

Cheers

Hi good choice :)

Premium has a 20gig hard drive that will let you save games, and download content from the Market Place, such as game demo's and movies, the arcade does come with a 64mb (I think) memory card that you could use for game saves however, but to be honest if you can afford it then better to go with the premium particularly if you are going to be using live.

Not sure about Gears of War, but I imagine you would still be able to find a game full of people easy enough, and no you can't improvise on Guitar Hero 3 sadly.

I went on this the other day and it's quite easy to find games, not as packed as once was but it's quite an old game now.

Good to know there are people still playing, I keep meaning to go back to this some more and get some of the online achievements :p

I would never recommend the Arcade over the Premium. As much as some may feel they won't be using certain features of the 360, I think the chances of never needing the extra space provided by the HDD are pretty slim.

better picture quality with HDMI over component??

Nope, not really. People claim there is, (technically HDMI is way better) but the main difference is if your telly is better at accepting signals between the two. You might notice the difference, some say they do.

Hi, if I was you, i'd go with the premium, did this myself and the only thing you miss out on is a black console with a 120GB Harddrive.
I run my 360 through the VGA cable and to be honest, I can't see the difference between HDMI and VGA on my monitor.

Just to resurrect this thread and continue the discussion - are you guaranteed to get an HDMI Premium model these days from the big online retailers? Obviously, you can't check if you're ordering this way but it's the cheapest at £229.

suppose if push came to shove you could just return it sealed?

to the brooder:- when you get your xbox make sure you take a look at the box first and check out the sticker with the bar code on it. somewhere on there it should say 175w.

if it does, it means that xbox has the new revised motherboard which are more reliable than the older ones.

so 175w = win
no 175w = lose

oh...and get a pro. as well as a harddrive you also get a months free live gold and a headset.

edit...and a component cable
