As title, do you think there is one? I played CS 1.6 and previous versions for over 6 years, and still I havn't found a game as competitive as it. I've finally got bored and want somthing new to get into, what do you think?

Before you say it, CS:source isn't competitive, its pretty much like an arcade mode game.

Try Call of Duty 4, or Team Fortress 2. CS 1.6 is pretty much the most competitive game around though, it's not easy to find another that's on its level.

I did try call of duty 4, and it just seems too easy to be good at it. Its mainly a case of just knowing the maps, or maybe I just play against n00bs

Neither CoD4 or TF2 are even remotely competitively at a match level in comparison.

The only game that comes close to 1.6 is CSS, but for some reason you have totally ruled it out. I'm not a fan of it, but to say it's an arcade game is just silly.

As an alternative, you might want to look into Quake Live when its released. Basically a free Q3, which means it will be popular again.

The levelling system is in place to match you with equivelant level players - if you're naturally good at first person shooters, you're naturally going to breeze through the first 20 levels easily. The longer you stay in the system, the more likely you are to be matched evenly. Give it another try and head to 40+.

pro community seems to disagree with you, its where most of the pro gamers seem to have gone.

As an example, theres over 6000 clans competing in various Enemy Down COD 4 leagues. CS 1.6 has 140 clans and CS:S about 450

Enemy down in its day was one of the biggest UK CS leagues, the fact most of its clans are now playing COD 4 says it all.

For tactics and teamwork for a successful win, I still stand by saying Rainbow Six: Raven Shield, but its very old now.

lol TF2 is a joke game. I don't even know why people bother making clans for it.

TFC was the most competitive game I have played. I have also played 1.6 and Source to high levels. TFC is the only pc game that I could actually draw parallels to real life sport with. Shame Valve decided to destroy it though.

if your going for competitive within the UK then the only games worth playing are CSS and COD4 or a single person game like quake/UT whichever next takes off as the top 1v1 game

when i say competitive i base it on the amount of money you can win in that particular game in this country only (lets face it theres no point in saying 1.6 because no one could start now and get to the money winning level, plus its so old who'd want to bother?)

if you want to play a decent game get quake 3, the scene is still pretty big loads of leagues/tournaments and its a lot harder than css/cod4/tf2. Also q3 is being well has been picked as the 1v1 game of the ESWC so its pretty damn popular at the minute.

I think using ED as an exemplary of pro-gamers is pushing it a bit.

Try looking at the SGL (7 separate 1.6 based leagues as it stands, 1 for CoD4), the CSGN (down until S10), etc.

To OP: There is nothing. I've spent the last 12-18 months looking for a game that gives the same sorta rush as playing a 5v5 clan match. I eventually went outside and played some footie ;)

no its not. Enemy down back in the day was one of the biggest UK CS Leagues

its not now, but thats not to say its not a usefull barometer of the current climate. The fact there are several thousand clans playing COD 4 competitively in ED speaks for itself.

Im not trying to say CS is dead, the OP said that COD4 isnt really a competitive game. Which isnt true. You'll find that the pro community plays without perks, without choppers / airstrikes etc.. and usually plays search and destory, similar to the DE maps of CS.

The beauty of COD4 is the ammount of customisation. Its much more accomodating of the pro gamer than something like TF2, which i would go so far as to say has discouraged the competitve gamer, insisting they should play a mod and not TF2.

PR mod for BF2 is pretty competitive I reckon and it has a tournament going on now where its 31vs31 players in every game which is pretty massive

The original cs was quite unique in its feel, css lags for me so I prefer bf2 now.

I do think you want a mod based game though because any mainstream game will be arcadey because thats where the money is
