Just looking for a bit of advice on how to go about writing and laying out a football CV, would it be a case of using the same layout and content as a normal CV but including football experiences and clubs while including hobbies and interests? Or strictly clubs and interests? Not expecting a massive response on this thread but if someone can help, please do :)

didn't even know such things existed to be honest! i would think that along with what you have already mentioned, testimonials or support from any notable figure in the area (manager, scout, coach etc) which could support your application could be useful.

are you applying to play somewhere or to work behind the scenes (if you don't mind me asking?)

It would be playing, i got picked up by Nottingham forest at 15 and was with them for a bit, left and played a some big north east teams then got a very good response at 17, trying it again at 19 to see what comes of it. Ive been told by some friends (who are employed as footballers) that agents working on behalf of them created a "football cv" which they used to seek out clubs which were interested. Hoping to do the same..

good luck with it but at 19 I feel you may have missed the boat already if you are not affiliated with any teams currently

No way, Ian Wright didn't start his footballing career till he was 22 and he did ok from it :D

No advice to the OP but good luck with the football.

How many years ago was that?

The time are changing and soon you will be watching a bunch of 10 year olds playing in the Premier league :p

Curtis Davis was on Soccer AM a few weeks back saying how he was released from his club and just sent a load of CV's off to a load of football league clubs and ended up getting a couple of trials, so its worth a try.

24 years ago but I'm sure there will be other examples of players in their 20s that have gone on to do big things in football, he was just one I remembered.

Why would times be changing, are younger teams more successful? Do younger players have more quality?

Surely all older players were once young players...so all young players now will be all old players at some point meaning that there will always be a balance of young v old up to a point where the body starts to give up (as were living longer and have better healthcare/advances surely the age a player can play at will become longer)

I'm fairly sure we will not see any 10 year olds in the Prem within my life time

yeah you've got a valid point, to be truely world class you need to be picked up young, as being taught by the best coaches with the best players puts you at a tremendous advantage. having said that though, the lower leagues are full of players who like the OP were with big clubs then released but have made their way back into the game and now make a reasobable living. i'm sure malcolm christie was in his early 20's when he first "made it"?

anyway, good luck with it OP.

In sport these days clubs like to pick up players while they are young so they can mold them into what they want.
Its not just soccer but in every sport.

You will get your older players getting in but they have to be really exceptional and its just much harder way to get in then if you were a young player with raw talent that can be crafted and taught the way you want them to be.

I should mention that since we qualified for the World cup down here they changed the official name from Soccer to Football.

3 or 4 Codes of Football are just too many to remember though :p

Yeah, I know there’s a chance of being knocked back, I have a lot of encouragement from my current club, I’m a goalkeeper aswell and we normally peak late on, unlike outfield players, one of my centre backs has just been handed a trial with hull and he’s 21 so it is possible. Thanks for the responses, still a little bit concerned on how to target the CV though.

I would just put down all the clubs you have played for and what you have won in the past.
Aslo send in a video of you playing a game :)
And add some other random things and some more to do with soccer.

Good luck :)

Sounds pretty cool to me, what league are you playing in?

Im in North West counties atm, Just one from the Unibond League.

Im 19 btw, and I do think that nowadays, clubs want players from a young age to get into the clubs style & habits , so good luck mate :)

Maybe something like a reference/summary from your current manager/coach?

Don't give up, Lee Trundle wasn't picked up until way into his 20's. You are lessening your chances but still is possible. I found football got too serious when scouts were involved, started to concentrate less on school and the enjoyment was getting sapped out. Only just started playing this year again 5 years on from when I quit aged 16'ish.
