A free equivalent version of photoshop?

Morning all im looking to create a new start orb for my windows 7 and from reading and watching lots of tuts looks like i need photoshop. I dont actually own this program and was wondering if anyone knew a good equivalent program?

The best free program I know is Paint.net

Way off Photoshop though.

You won't find an "equivalent" to Photoshop anywhere.

But Paint.NET and GIMP are certainly very good. It all just depends what you need out of an image editing program

its pretty much Photoshop CS3 Online. for free its a bit slow at saving but other than that its great, i use it at work for photo-editing now and again.

I've used Photoshop since version 3 but this last year I've used Paint.Net for 99% of stuff I do.
I can't get on with GIMP.

Pixlr is free and online too, similar to Sumo Paint.

Perhaps download the 30 day trial of Adobe's Photoshop CS5 - All is required is a registration.

This is only any real use if you plan to use the software for a limited time.

Perhaps you can get by with Photoshop elements?

GIMP is good, but I found Paint.NET a lot easier to get started with.

GIMP is horrendous. There aren't that many good cheap/free image editing packages unfortunatly paint.net is probably the easiest to get into for simple manipulation but lacks many power features.

Thanks guys, the only reason i want photoshop is cos im looking to custimize my windows 7 with new icons, orbs etc. I think a photoshop licence these days are over the £400 mark
