A future proof CPU

Hey all,

What would be a good future proof CPU to buy atm? Or at least a future proof architecture?

I have read that new AMD is on the way so is really the option probably an intel 1200/1700?

Current one (i7-5820k) has lasted me very well over the years so would hope to buy something that would do my the same job.

Thank you.

Sorry All I forgot to reply to this thread... I have to it admit, it went a bit off tangent lol.

Ill be honest, I think I worded my initial question wrong. I am not so much concerned about near future upgrades or such, but I am looking for a processor that I can buy now that will last as long as my 5820k has done, so roughly nearly 9 years and still is a decent runner.

Now I am aware that parts can change and grow at an exponential rate and what lasted 9 years then may not last that now.

So I guess the question is... what (in your opinions) would be a processor that would give a good 5/6 years of usable life?

Oh Yea sorry forgot that, cant recall what the 5820k and asus x99 mobo cost me back in the day... but say maybe 800 total for both processor and mobo? Ill be honest, ive recent started full time employment again after a bit of a dry spell so could push that if needed.

Im not looking to buy the best all out system, just something that will last me a good chunk of time.

When picking between processors last time it was between the 5820k and the 4790k which.... in hindsight, the later may have likely been the better gaming processor and would have lasted me just as long. Cant recall why I settled on the 5820k, I think it was just newer?

Aaaaaaand now I remember the main reason for going for the 5820k, DDR4 Memory! :)

Wont need memory, my old ones packed last last year and bought 32GB Corsair Vengance 3200MHz to replace so that should keep me good there I think? So I could put the cash into either of the mobo or processor.

Thank you for the replies so far people, the input has been very helpful

Thanks!

a lot of people have mentioned the 12700k and I see it popping up quite a bit in other topics so this is likely the most serious contender
