Bigger box!
Granted, Ranibow 6 Vegas looks very cool, and SWAT was alright (about two years old on PC) and I'm sure if I look I'll find a few 'tactical' FPS's.
But what really, really did it for me with Raven Shield was the ability to plan your missions, in minute detail, and then sit back and watch them unfold.
Having all your guys make their way to several entrances to a room and then giving the order to breach was awesome :D

Is there anything else out there even similar???

To be honest, I'd be happy playing RvS still but I've lost the first disc :(

did you actually play Ravenshield? its just when you mention planning and sitting back and watchin it sounds like you enjoy watching your men running about and seeing some nice action sequences?
you can get Ravenshield for like £5 new from ebay.

Played it to death, completed it single player and spent countless hours on multiplayer.
But i can find thoose things in newer games, i can't find the tactical element of planning and refining your strategy until it's that good that you don't need any personal involvement.....

As for the e-bay thing, was aiming to go out and buy something today but e-bay isn't a bad idea.....

I always fight WITH my men :o

But yeah, the planning aspect was great, if a little over my head back when I played the game (I was about 14 :( )

i think the reason most of those tactical options are gone is due to the multi-platform games e.g. GRAW or Vegas, they probably didnt want to make the gaming complicated for the console users so they decided to remove it, probably saved them some extra development time too.

Well, I'm such a plum that I only just realised that this should be in PC Games. If a passing Don has nothing better to do I'd appreciate it. Cheers :)

On a side note, re-installed RvS and played the planning part of the first level for about 3 hours!!!
It's just awesome!! Yeah, it's no issue to complete the level, but then the challenge is to beat it without losing a man, then without injuring one, then you keep tweaking til you're happy it's just flawlessly executed.............

The game was well ahead of it's time I think. And granted, it's not real time because you plan and then see what happens, but as far as strategy games goes, in my very humble oppinion, it's unbeatable :)

Awesome fun :D

Too True :(

Everythings getting dumbed down these days.

Right, Armed assault? Good but might not be what your looking for, its an outdoorsy milsim.

Yay! Other people that actually like the planning stage... i have sadly pretty much given up on the rainbow6 series ever going back to its roots and making another truely tactical fps but if there are people around that do like the planning stage then there is always hope... sadly though as has been said there are more people playing games on consoles these days.. and i know its a generalisation but they dont have the controls or often the intelligence to play a game as complicated as raven shield :D

As for playing one map for 3 hours i played the 747 mission on rogue spear for a good couple of weeks tweaking my routes dozens of times

i remember it clearly i had 2 squads go in the back cargo ramp.. a sniper take out the guy at the front door... a recon squad would then go up the stairs to the front door and would sneakily kill the tango's in the front room.. one of my main squads would then climb the ladder into that room while the other would then go up the stairs.. both squads would then make their way to the hostages on the upper deck... some flashbangs and lots of death later and my recon guy would come up and escort the hostages out while my other guys provided cover.

Good times :D
