This only applies if you like car driving games.
I rented (RidgeRacer6) because I was a bit dubious as to whever it would be any good or not. Now I love Project Gotham racing 3 but at the end of the day it doesn’t really know if it’s an arcade game or stab at a simulation.
When I first booted up Ridge Racer 6 I thought deary me this seems awfully slow after PGR3 and I thought I’ll give it 10 mins then post it back.
Well I lasted a bit longer (2 months now). This is a true Arcade racer and it’s reminded me so much of what good arcade racers used to be. After a few racers things started speeding up and the sense and feel of drifting around the corners is almost therapeutic, it’s so satisfying. Talking of drifting, when I seen the trailer for this game it looked kind of hideous how the cars went around the corners but I’d like to tell you its very different when you play it, its very well engineered and totally satisfying.
The music tracks in this game are so cool and you feel obliged to do well as you drift around the corners to some great tracks. Car sounds all seem correct and meaty and although the DJ guy who comments on your driving got on my nerves at first I love him to bits now, he’s like a good mate egging you on to do better.
To keep it brief the graphics in this game are amazing and hand on heart I truly believe they are better than PGR3.
The track/s design is amazing and so immersive it’s really a breath of fresh air.
The only downside to this game (for me anyway) is that it doesn’t touch PGR3 for online play in the slightest, however the online challenge of achieving the fastest lap/s on any track saves it and is a welcomed change from “just” winning races.
The point of my thread is just to help anyone who has considered getting this game and had any doubts. If you can get past the first 5 or so slow paced races you will be onto a winner here. Quite an addictive game.
