Hi there,

I'm currently running an i5-3450, 4x4gb Corsair Vengeance 1600MHz ram (at 1333MHz due to instability, lol), MSI ZH77A-G43 motherboard, Corsair CX750, as well as a G1 Gaming GTX 980Ti.

After purchasing a 980Ti I have decided to upgrade my processor. I, much like most people, would want it to be 'future proof' for a couple of years at the very least. I don't do much in the terms of 3d rendering etc, but I do plan to make videos, so I am stuck between the following:

- i7-4790k, MSI Gaming 5 z97 motherboard, Corsair H110i GT(X), whilst keeping the same RAM - Total £200+£100+£100 = £400

- i7-5820k, MSI X99S SLI Plus, 2x 8gb Corsair LPX DDR4 Ram + a Coolermaster 212 cooler (£240+£150+£110+£0) = £500.

Which would be the better option for me? I plan to add more RAM to the latter over time, just not at the moment due to the cost of DDR4. The two extra cores, as well as four extra threads of the i7-5820k sound tempting for DX12 in the future, which is why I am so torn.

Thanks for your help!

If you can hold on for a month or so Intrl will launching a new range of CPU's which might be worth holding for.

From what I have seen Skylake don't seem to be a huge performance increase over the 4790k, but I'm not sure if more valid sources have said otherwise.

What kind of future options will be in Skylake? I haven't done too much research into it, I have just looked at the performance numbers.

I'll be getting my processor new, but from a previous owner which is why it's only £200 for a 4790k, and £240 for a 5820k - Thanks though!
