Hi,

I have a picture that is Black and white, and slightly blurry, however when using Windows Explorer with "thumbnails" i notice just for a moment it appears in full colour... but then when it loads properly the black and white appears.

It is a JPEG image, is there a way of opening or viewing the colour version properly in photoshop, or whatever?

Anyone have any ideas at all?

I am not being silly :p the image is completely full colour in the thumb nail that windows generates for a few seconds in WIndows Explorer (vista) but then turns to the Black and White version...

What is happening / causing this, and is there a way of retrieving the old version of the photo (the colour) or what? O.o never happens with other images, just this so I am curious.

Did you ever have a colour photo with the same name as the black and white photo? Just thinking that maybe windows has cached the old thumbnail and displays it for a second before picking up the latest version of the image.

I can't really link it as it is copy righted :(

SPunkey, no - the image is the exact version of the thumbnail, there are a couple of images actually - but they are 100 percent the colour versions which I have never owned or touched.

It's like this:

It is on a server mapped drive, I un map the drive and clear thumbnail cache, I remap the drive.

I go to the folder which has other files in it too, and then scroll down to the images, I see literally in thumbnail view the original color versions as a thumbnail, for just a few seconds and then windows is like "oh sorry it actually looks like this" and changes it to the black and white version.

It does have all 3 color channels as a JPEG image. It is confusing the heck out of me.

It's possible to get colour back into BW pics. Pass them through 3 filters.. 1 red, 1 green, 1 cyan. May need some tweaking to get them looking right, but it's been done before.
