So I've decided to go out and upgrade my entire system. I'll be running with a 2600k later this week.. (at a nice price) 8gb RAM, AX750 PSU. Was going to go with a 3770k but cut back a little.

Trying to get a decent enough GPU to go with it.

Today I'm running with a Q6600 and 5770's x-fired. Not wanting to go down the x-fire route again, because it can become a little cumbersome.

Want a single GPU this round.

TBH I'm probably not going to be playing a whole lot of games... Perhaps Dirt 3, F1 2011, and COD MW3, Blk Ops... And if I can get away with it BF3

I want to keep it in the midrange prices.

The way I see it, is I can go with either of the following.

GTX 580 used.
7870 used
GTX 570 manu refurb
GTX 560ti 1280gb New (with free game)
7850 new (with free game)
6970 new

Or show some patience and use my 5770's x-fired until the new 670's come out later this month.

What would you go with, given my situation and why. The nVidia offerings will have only between 1 - 1.5gb or RAM, whereas ATI's cards are 2GB.. Though I'm assuming the nVidia cards are just that little bit better, correct ?

The 7850 bang per buck is top notch and the OC headroom is incredible. The 670 is also looking like a card to have purely because it sits just behind the 680.

What budget did you have in mind for a GPU please?

Well I'm in the USA, so things are priced slightly differently.. But I want to keep it under $300. Preferably around the $250 mark.

I was going to go with a 680 or 7970, just to have the best (within reason) But said to myself.. Why? I don't really find the time to game all that much.. $500 on a GPU is insane. So I've said to myself.. Get something decent, but not that's gonna have the wife kill me upon receipt.

Save your self some cash go for a 3570k and geta GTX 670 when it launches.

The 2600k was purchased at 3570k prices. No brainer there. I like the idea of the GTX670.. But worried about launch prices and availability. They're gonna fly off the shelves.

Plus i'm kinda desperate. All my new gear is arriving this week. But i don't have a GPU on order.

Well the 670 will launch on the 10th.

Will probably be over £300 so its not cheap.

Second hand GTX580 would be bad I suppose.

re the 580. Not quite as green as a 7850 or 7870 though..

Plus I'm a man who enjoy's his silence, and AFAIK the 580s put a bit of noise out, don't they?

I think I'll grab a 7850 or 7870, but TBH i was looking forward from a change on ATI, just to be different. I've been using their boards since the Geforce 3 !!! lol...

Hmmm I'm seeing a 7950 on the bay, still within the top end of my price range... Maybe I'll up the ante a little.

Sometimes it is better the devil you know but the 670 is looking like the card to have, so just hang fire for a couple of days.

Price wise, the 7870 is well over priced for what it gains over the 7850. If I had to buy now with your intended budget, it would deffo be the 7850 though.
