I'm pretty sure the PC can run the top-end computer games. But I'm always unsure on the graphics card.

Just wondering if I should spend money on this rig?

Oh and Hi, just registered.

Hi welcome to the forums :)

I'm sorry, but you can't post competitor links here, so you might to remove it. Howabout replacing it with a list of the specs and a price?

However, having a look I'd say it is not an ideal gaming machine. A quad core CPU may sound powerful, but its a very low speed version and will not play games nearly as well a similarly price dual or triple core CPU.

Also, Vista is pretty much over now - get the free windows 7 RC and buy a Retail Win 7 Pre-order. A much better bet imho.

The 4850 is a solid graphics card, but it is almost the bare minimum for playing current games at high settings. If you want to run games at a high resolution, high settings and high framerates, something like this is a better bet.

However, I (like most on the forums) will suggest that you build your own PC. It cost the same or less as a pre-build, you get exactly what you want and it's good fun.

Surely newegg is in no way competition. They're American for a start.

It's not a good computer. Nothing in that makes is suitable for gaming. 680W no-name psu makes it a hazard, q8200 is just not the processor you want. Case is ugly as sin, but I suppose that's preference.

How much would it cost you, in sterling, bearing in mind that customs are going to hit you and so is shipping. Ocuk do considerably better systems than that one at a wide range of price points if you dont assemble it yourself

considering the £ against the dollar then i'd have thought ocuk hammers most notions of importing from the states. As jon states Mr taxman will love you long time, also warranty could be a real pita.. .that assumes your not based west of the pond.

Welcome to the forum btw.

If you dont want to or dont feel comfortable building your own go for one of the OCUK pre builts as unlike other companys.

1: They dont use unbraded rubbish
2: There systeams are balanced
3: They will overclock it for you giving you more vaule for money

From what you said if you want to play "top end games" i would advise

This with a 4890 & vista 64bit with windows 7 upgrade voucher

Total : £730

Vista ultimate 64 bit, right?

Vista Home Premium (64bit) plus a 4890 comes to £730 as Pwndirect stated. Personally I would go for [no OS] and use window 7 RC (plus buy Windows 7 Pre-Order/retail).

I agree that this kind of setup is what you want if you want to play current and near-future games at high settings and framerates.

Go for the 'no O/S' option and use Windows 7 RC for free for a while, then jump straight to that O/S
when its released in October.

Yes free until he needs 2 upgrade it….. which unless he preorders this month will need up costing him more!. Than going for an upgradable version of vista.

Also judging by the language & knowledge he has shown am trying to minimize the hassle he will have to go throw as I highly doubt he will be familiar with installing os's & burning iso's.

So w7 voucher knocks the price off the full product while windows 7 RC is the trial?

I probably sound retarded, but even if I had the slightest inkling of what either were then I'd probably still ask just for confirmation.

W7 is the trial version of the new O/S,which will be released in October. If you are at all unsure you might be more comfortable getting vista premium with the W7 upgrade voucher.
Otherwise, you could use W7 now,for free, and pre order a copy of the full version of W7.

Idolizm,

If you want to learn more about Windows 7, Microsoft does have a site with whitepapers, tutorials, walkthroughs and screen casts on all the “under the hood” features in Win 7. Check out the Springboard site for Windows 7 on TechNet
