Helllllllllllllllo :D

Me mate has just bought a xbox 360 and wants to get live on it.

He has a 50 foot ethernet cable which he can connect to a router, so wireless isnt essential but would be nice to have i spose so he can have the option to get a wireless adaptor in the future if he wants to.

I am really out of my depth here. I have a BT Home Hub, so it was quite easy.

Also, if the ethernet cable is 50 ft long, would this harm the speed?

Cheers :D

I'd imagine any half decent router will do the job, i've used Belkin and Netgear products over the years and neither brand have let me down.

As for the cable length, he won't have any problems with 50ft. Cat 5 cable can do approx 300ft before it starts to get squiffy.

Netgear routers usually do a good job so yes that should work fine and you will be able to port forward if needed to host. Anything over 512k will be fine for playing on live as long as its a decent isp.

Ok thanks for that, and sorry for being a bit thick in asking this, but what would you consider a good isp? ive always been with BT and havnt really had any problems with them. I just want to know just incase me mates on a crappy isp, and ill tell him to sort that out before getting a router and stuff.

Thanks again :)

Bt should be ok, people I know who use them have no xbox live problems. Tiscali, talk talk and orange are amongst the ones to avoid! what isp does he have?
