A good switch?

So I have 2 360s, a PC and a PS3 upstairs and want to get them wired instead of just using wireless. Wired I 100% more than wireless. And lucky me, I have one (very long) ethernet cable going from the router upstairs to my PC.

So I've now discovered switches and I'm looking around. So, what is the best switch for my DGN2200. Keep in mind I've only started looking up about switches about 20 minutes ago. Nothing huge, just reliable and best compatible with my DGN2200.

Thanks guys.

Decide whether you want 10/100 or Gigabit, and just pick something you like the look of.

Unmanaged switches are all very similar from a performance point of view.

All switches will be compatible. You may as well go for gigabit, just depends if you want a cheap unit (~£20) or a more expensive one like the HP Procurve series (~£50).

As far as I know, the DGN2200 doesn't have Gigabit. So I'm guessing 10/100 is also known as Fast Ethernet? Since the product specs for the DGN2200 only mention that when talking about the ethernet ports.

Probably not, routers tend not to be gigabit. There's not much point in them being over 100m/b since no one (in a domestic setting) has an internet connection that fast.

That said gigabit is back compatible and not much more expensive. It also might speed up data going between devices that are connected to the switch. It is also well worth doing if you're thinking about buying a NAS at any time in the future. For your purposes any switch with enough ports will be fine.

Perfect, all I needed to know.
Thanks.
