Hello all

I'm currently using Perfect Disc 7 for Defrag's and a program called Regvac to keep the registry in order.

Can anyone suggest a decent program for cleaning out old files, duplicate files etc etc. I was looking at A1Click Ultra PC Cleaner but it seems a bit dated

I'd be interested to hear what software you guys use to keep your PC ticking over

Do people really see a measurable difference using these things? I've never, ever used anything like these products, and my performance stays where it should.

I wondered about that too so gave CC a whirl a few weeks back and didn't notice the slightest difference.

using CC now and more than noticing a difference it is just nice to know im atleast trying to keep my computer clean and sorted! also it seems to do many things i do anyway just in one click

I don't need to use them myself, only on other people's system :)

TuneUp 2006 is the daddy and it makes a massive difference to performance and stability. I urge all those who don't use anything to try it, you will be amazed. :)

I have been using System Mechanic for the past few years, and it's been fine.

There is a trial version to download :

I used to swear by this program for years too - the only system cleaner I'd ever have installed, but since the upgrade from SM5 to 6 it seems so bloaty and intrusive. Smells like Norton ;)
I've never tried crap cleaner, I'll give that a go.

Yes, I know what you mean.

However, it only cost me 0.01p to upgrade to SM6, and a further £17.07 to obtain Kaspersky's Anti-Virus & Firewall for 12 months via upgrading to SM6 Pro. :)

I left SM6 to get on with it for a few hours, and thought my PC was a bit sharper afterwards- but this maybe just wishful thinking. :(

I also use CCleaner as well

Make that Tuneup Utilities 2007 ;)

However, each year they make a new product, I always seem to think, what the hell have they added different. Nothing to justify the new price tag every year.

I'm always wary of the changes these tools make. For example I tried Tuneup Utilities some time ago and it un-optimised (?) up my broadband networking - it seemed to assume that all users were US based and so optimized my connection for PPPoE rather the the PPPoA standard we use in the UK.
These tools though are great for cleaning crap but for this there are plenty of good free options (e.g. CCleaner which is great).
