A handy little tip.

I used this when I first modded a friends Xbox.

Here's a few more. "Windows key" and "D" at the same time gives you a clear desktop with everything minimized. "Windows key" and "Pause Break" gives you System Properties. There's loads more but I use these the most as well as others that have been mentioned. A lot easier than using your mouse I feel.

Anybody who used DOS would know this. DOS 3.1 anyone? I remember inserting about 8 1.2MB disks to install DOOM :p

Then of course there was DOS 3.3! You had to sys the drive before putting the data on it otherwise you could not get the operating system to work. :) The problem was resolved from 5.1 onwards or was it 4.2? What about DR DOS?

So how many of you know about CTRL, SHIFT and ESCAPE then?

are we talking about vista now ;)?

[EDIT] someone beat me to it i think,
For those who have not clicked, Ctrl Shift and Delete is the shortcut in Vista for the task manager ( Ctrl Atlt Delete in XP ) saves time :)

by the way, to un-pause the POST screen on certain setups, CTRL + ALT seems to do it :)

Wow, I'm on a learning spree... Just found out earlier that you can open links in a new tab by clicking the scroll wheel button :o For years, I've been doing it the slow way, ie right click etc.

No, it works just as well in XP :)

The runprompt (windows + R) is your friend. Lots of stuff can be run through there without all that messing arond with menus, and of course you only need to type it the first time, you can pick it up in the history after that.

eg.....

www.whatever will run your default browser and display that page.

"control appwiz.cpl" opens the add-remove software box
"control mmsys.cpl" opens the sounds control panel
"control sysdm.cpl" opens the device manager

If there's a particular control panel you use, run it the normal point and drool way, then pop the task manager and look for the process ending in .cpl that's your winner for future use.

Now if only winderz could do cntrl-alr-sysrq R>S>E>I>U>B
