Hi new member here and I was wondering if you knowledgeable folk here could help me with my problems with my 3 year old Acer 5920g laptop.

The laptop doesn’t turn on. It does sometimes from funny angles
The laptop looses time and date
Windows Explorer doesn’t start so I have to manually start it by task manager > new task > explorer.exe.

Thanks in advance

Losing the time and date might be something like simply fitting a new battery to the motherboard.

As for the others, it sounds like age, my friend :)

I opened the back "flap" to change the cmos battery but it does look like a mission because i need to open the whole case as its hidden. The big problem is that the laptop doesn't like to start. is this actual button or something else?

at a guess opening the back 'flap' will probably only opening up access to ram.

if by this you mean that the laptop will turn on but the screen is only viewable from 'funny' angles then its also possible the gpu or onboard graphics is on the way out.

as said before, the cmos battery is on the blink too. i'm not sure if the 2 are linked. i dont know you're specific laptop, but in my experience to get at the 'workings' of a laptop is a job only undertaken if you REALLY know what you're doing.

This is right. it only gives access to the ram.

What i mean by angles is that when the laptop is off it will not turn on unless i press the on button a couple of times.

Also when i turn the computer off it doesn't really turn off. the screen goes blank but not off. Theres still power in the laptop.

the only thing to do is try changing the CMOS battery, and let the CMOS reset... I had this problem once, this fixed it for a couple of months, but then the mobo failed completely
