Hello,
Thanks to advice in the GPU section I have decided to go for a ati hd 5770. My current monitor only goes up to 1680 x 1050. The hd 5770 goes up to 2560x1600. Would i really see a great difference in upgrading my monitor to this resolution, and if so can someone recommend atleast a 22" monitor which can handle the higher resolution. I don't really want to spend more than £130-£150 on one as I already have a 42" 1080p tv although I am not sure what resolution that is. Any advice greatly received :);)

What do you use your PC (and monitor) for mainly?

It is true that your HD 5770 can display at much higher resolutions, however in many cases the 5770 will struggle to display an acceptable framerate to play games at these resolutions (I am assuming you are mainly wanting the upgrade for gaming, if not please correct me). Have a look at this review to see how this graphics card's performance scales with resolution in different games.

Also, bear in mind that the 2560x1600 resolution monitors all cost many hundreds of pounds over your budget, as they are mainly aimed at professionals, not gamers.

Your 1080p TV, is by definition 1920x1080 resolution. So if you played your games on this, the resolution will be higher - but the pixels will also be much larger. The viewing experience compared to your monitor will all depend on how far away from the TV you are sitting.

So, to be honest - spending £150 will only net you a 1920x1080 monitor like the ones kmufc links to. They are both good monitors for gaming, but compared to your current one they are only 2 inches bigger and have 18% more pixels. So the observable difference will not be huge. That said, if you ran the two monitors (current 22in and new 24in) then you will be able to run them in dual screen mode - which is very useful and gives you loads more desktop real-estate for multi-tasking.

Thanks for that cmndr andi. So I woulkd be better off really just using a hd5770 through my 42" tv as that will give me better graphics than my current monitor which is 1680x1050. As i already play call of duty etc on my 42" tv and find the graphics lovley I should forget about upgrading my monitor and maybe look at investing in a higher end card 5870 instead maybe?
