I have the opportunity of getting an x1800 crossfire master card for about £200 and am woundering if it would be worth my while.

My rig is as follows:
Oppy 165 CCB1E 0609 fpmw (sitting at 2.8GHz)
DFI ultra-d (which i will change to the DFI cfx3200)
X1800 XT which i can clock comfortably to 710MHz/825MHz(which is 1700MHz DDR)
2 gigs ocz pc4000 at 3-3-2-7
17" tft at 1280 by 1024
580 watt hyper type r modular

i get 5231 in 3dmark '06 and 10733 in '05

Advice anyone?

tbh at that res you wouldn't notice much difference. It all depends on the price you can get the new card for?

Do the games you play struggle on that system? i would have thought they would be fine maxed out?

as i said i cn get it for about 200, i find that oblivion can struggle a bit in parts.

Also i thought that considering it is getting harder and harder to get these cards it might be worthwhile getting one for the future thus lengthening the lifetime of my rig

I'd say sell your x1800xt and combine your money to get an x1900 or 7950.

IMO, that isnt a smart thing to do, nor is it smart to upgrade mobo and get the mastercard if you dont really need it.

Do your games you play struggle at the settings you like to play them at (probs top quality).

If yes, then go for either 7950gx2, keeping everything but the x1800 you have or you can get a new mobo and the mastercard.

My money would be on that too ^^

X1900XT as best 'single card', although 7950 probably in some (SLI ready) games......as a recent convert to ATI, X1900 and a nice few pints ;)

the x1900 is hardly any faster, it just has an insane number of pixel shaders.

Crossfire would be a total waste on a 1280x1024 resolution. I didn't mean to pee in your chips, but you asked if it would give you any benefit, and you would be CPU limited to the max at that resolution. :( I would spend the money on a nice, big monitor were I in your position (and I just did! :D)
