Hi all. My Dell XPS 700 has died. I'm now left with some good-ish components in a totally non-upgradable case/Mobo, so I'm going to salvage the good bits and build a new PC.
I'm having to do this on the cheap as I'm not earning at the moment.
Here is what I have that is useable:
Intel E6700 (LGA 775) Core 2 Duo 2.67
2gb 667 DDR2 Ram x 2 (4Gb)
500Gb SATA2
dvd rom and burner
XFX Geforce GTX260 Black edition
I have had a trawl and found a motherboard or two that seem fine. My requirements are obv. socket, Sata 2, and an optical SPDIF
ASRock P43DE Socket 775 1600FSB ATX DDR2 Motherboard
OR
Gigabyte GA-73PVM-S2H GeForce 7100 Socket 775 DDR2 mATX Motherboard
They are the same price btu the only difference seems to be the Nvidia chipset. No idea which one is a better bet.
As far as coolers go:
Akasa AK-965 Intel LGA 775 Heatpipe Cooler
Seems cheap - I don't mind paying a little more for a quieter life if you have any suggestions.
Finally, although I have my HDD I'll need a new one to install the OS on so I can preserve my old data. Any recommendations on something fast and not nescessarily large (160Gb will more than do)?
Any advice would be grand - I've been out of the loop for a while.
p.s. I'm looking at a 550w PSU - I assume this should be enough for my GTX260. When it was in my Dell (700W) I plugged in a friends power meter and I only ever drew about 350W at peak
