I have just purchased a new motherboard MSI 990FXA-GD65 I have a new OCZ 700watt mod extreme pro I have noticed the motherboard has an 8 pin ATX power connector and a 6 pin ATX power connector do I need to have both of these coonected, the PSU has a 4 pin and 8 pin connector coming from it.
at the moment I have connected the 4 pin one from the PSU to the 8 pin on the motherboard and everything appears to work ok, have I done the right thing?

Advice much appreciated Q

Just seems odd, a 6pin (is it PCI-E connector?) instead of say a 4pin molex like my Asrock has or a 4pin ATX or even having two 8pin ATX.

yeah a pci-e connector, it makes sense. Not many PSU's have more than one 8 pin connector whereas many have extra pci-e connectors.

Ok thanks for the advice, I have tried the 8 pin power connector in the 8 pin m/board socket and the 4 pin power connector in the 6 pin m/board socket and the system won't boot had to remove battery for a few seconds and refit 4 pin into m/board 8 pin socket (hope I make myself clear) and system boots no problem so it would appear, to me anyhow that everthing is ok but it is a bit strange

Thanks Q
