A little bit o' help please

Afternoon all,

Quick problem I am trying to install a vodafone mobile broadband dongle onto my mothers laptop (Dell inspiron 8100 running windows xp with sp3) and when I plug the dongle in it makes the usual "ding dong" of registering a usb device but it shows up in my computer as a cd drive and keeps cutting in and out of connectivity? I.e. keeps disappearing then ding donging again this doesn't seem to happen with a usb memory stick though. Any idea's?

/bump still having this problem guys, I thought it may have been down to the fact the laptop only has usb1.1 but I've bought a pcmcia usb 2.0 card and the problem still occurs any ideas as I'm getting some grief over this!

You tried downloading the drivers for it and installing them on laptop first? Rather than letting it do plug n play
