howdy folks,

just looknig a quick bit of advice.

currently my bt home hub (will replace with something fancier in the near future) is situated in my man cave upstairs.

i plan on running a 30mtr ethernet cable up into the roofspace and down the walls into the living room where i want to hook the tv, blu-ray player, sky box and htpc up to the net too.

is just as simple as getting a 5 port switch and some shorter cables to run from the switch to the individual appliances?

also would the htpc be better off on its own internet cable instead of through a switch?

and finally!

anyone spec me a nice plain -(preferably black in case i'm unable to hide it away)- switch for the job or the relevant necessary equipment?

cheers

Yes

It'll make very little difference. But, unless there's a good reason not to, I'd install two cables just in case.

The TP-Link 5 Port Gigabit Desktop Switch here is cheap and cheerful and would do the job.

cheers
