Hi All,

I've recently 'fixed' my mates PC, the PSU had blown, I tested it with a spare and it worked perfectly well, so ordered him one (a Corsair System Builder 430w), but now the PC wont start.:(

It gets to the windows icon with the scrolling green bar (Windows XP) but it just sits there with the green thing scrolling across.

So far I have unplugged everything, plugged it all back together, tried different ram, reset the bios, cleared the cmos, tried booting into safe mode and nothing has fixed it. Has anyone got any ideas where I should start finding this fault? It's been a while since I played with PCs and I'm a bit rusty!

The only anomaly I can think of is that the PSU didn't come with 2 of those graphics card power plugs, so I had to get an adapter from molex..

System specs are -

MB - Asus PSN-D
CPU - Core2 Quad 2.4
Ram - Corsair DDR2 6400 2 x 1GB
PSU - Corsair CX430
GPU - Nvidia GTX 8800

Maybe the PSU isn't manly enough? Would that cause this fault?

Thanks for any help!

I'd just stick that other PSU back in it & see if it works again. Won't take you 5 mins & it will tell you one way or tuther.

Hi,

The PSU it worked with was a 450w matx one, tho I don't know why I chose such a low power PSU to replace permanently, brain failure!

I'll pick up the PSU it worked with and give that a go, I get the feeling it wont work, but shall try!

I don't think the XP install is screwed, only because the install was fine when I tested it on the matx PSU and nothings gone bang since.

Thanks for the help, I'll post back when I've tried the other psu. Also, thanks for the link stoner, very handy!
