It has become quite a bit over my original budget of £800. Thoughts on this list and any ideas on making it cheaper please??
I will be using 3D software/image editing: zbrush, 3ds max or maya or blender, adobe CS6 various image and web editing software (and the usual usage of internet, watching movies, and maybe light gaming)

I was originally going to put in an i7 3770k but firstly i'm not really intending to overclock it and secondly I've been advised that the only differences between that and Xeon is that i7 has a built in GPU which I have already got on my list and that the performance is better but not as good value for money.

I was told that for 3D software you need lots of threads and hyperthreading which i7 and Xeon are good at as far as I'm aware. Is a higher spec i5 as good with that?

Budget was £800 but I am willing to pay extra if I feel I really need to, it's just my first list seemed a bit steep
 
The E3 1230 V2 is a solid chip and well worth the money. You're right enough choosing this, for what you're going to be doing the extra threads should help a fair bit. The E3 1230 V2 is effectively i7 for i5 price. The i5 only has 4 threads while this has 8. It should be compatible with most if not all 1155 motherboards providing the BIOS is recent enough.

OP: I'd buy a cheaper motherboard. The one you've chosen is way more than you need.
