hey guys, i use overclockers a lot so i figured id try there forum for a question i have.

First my kit, AMD 64 X2 3800 @ 2.65 (freezer pro) 2 gig of low latency corsair platinum DDR, Asus A8N32 - SLI Duluxe, 2 x 7800 GT in SLI (x16)

In quake 4 with every setting to max i was happily getting 60 FPS (1280x1024)
similar story with all the other games ive tried until...fear extraction point

Now all of a sudden im getting sevear slowdown after a few mins of play. It all starts off fine i got all settings on max playing on 1024x768 and im sitting on about 150 FPS after about 20 mins it drops to 70 FPS and after a little bit more im lucky to keep 16 FPS at this point its not unusual for the gfx to go comepleatly skits and appear as black blobs..

Now i know what your thinking and so did I heat. So i kept the heat monitor running while i played but to my surprise the cores were pretty stable on 45c (idle) - 65c (load) . (a little warm maybe but no were enar the 115c throttle point) Now my question is simple, im now guessing that maybe its the memory getting hot rather then the gfx cores. The case has good ventalation, so im not sure. However i didnt want to pay our for after market cooling if it wasnt going to help. I also wanted to cheak that the artic cooling accelero actaly cooled the ram as well as the core.

Is this a known issue? have i missed something? what fps should i be getting?

Also once heating is solved i was considering overclocking the cores and memory if anyone has done this id appreciate an idea of what settings i should aim for.

for your information im useing the latest forseware drivers and the fear extraction point profile that came with them.

ohhh

just so you know,

i wouldnt even be asking if the cores wernt so cool, and i had had no trouble in any other game. It seems such an obviouse problem. It had just occured to me that maybe it was a known issue or somthing.
