Where you least expect me
Hello everyone
im sort of new to this so i was lookin for a little help
im not an extreme gamer as such but i regularly play WoW, call of duty etc (feel free to recommend games;)
Should i go for an i7 based system or a phenom x4 because i think id save about 300ish quid if i go for phenom will the performance difference be big
i was also confused on how much wattage i need
Thanks for the help in advance :D

If it's gaming, the AMD 955 represents better bang / buck. Until the i5 arrives and we can see that pricing anyway.
The power supply is heavily dependent on the rest of your spec. Will you be using SLI or Crossfire ?

If you're into WoW and COD, you won't be needing a highly overclocked i7, a phenom2 x3 would easily run those games at a more than adequte rate. If you want to go quad, I'd say a AMD Phenom II X4 Quad Core 955 Black Edition 3.2GHz would be more than enough.

As for PSU requirements it depends on what GPU(s) you intend to use, but you'll have plenty of overhead with a decent 600W PSU.

On the GPU front, it's hard to argue with the value of the HD4870 1G cards at the moment.

Edit: oh you already have a 4890.

so i should get the 955 black edition and instead of a HD4890 go for the HD4870 thanks
could i get two 4870's on 600w or is that asking too much

I thought you already had a HD4890, in which case stick with it, I wouldn't get a second one until you've seen what the HD5xxx series has to offer (out this month). If you haven't got a GPU at all yet, I'd wait ~3 weeks ;)

On the PSU side, if you were going to go down the dual card route in the future, you would probably want to look at a PSU like the Corsair HX750, but it's always going to be a guess until we know what the power requirements of DX11 cards are going to be (I expect very high in the case of Nvidia's GT300s, and AMDs 5XXX series are likely to use more power then the 4XXXs).
