After my computer got Zapped by a black out belkin paid out for the damages so now im just after a Motherboard and a Graphics Card

Could i get some recommendations of what to get?

Ill need a Socket 1366 Mother Board and Id personally prefer an Nvidia graphics card.

My budget is upto £700 but it doesnt mean i have to use it all :p

Thanks :)

Asus Rampage III extreme £271.20
MSI GTX580 Twin Frozer II £379.99
Total £650.19

Both on offer this week. Job done :D

There are cheaper ways to do it, but I think that gets you the best bits for your £700.

Is it worth the extra money going for a GTX580 or would a GTX570 play everything on the highest settings?

Im not after and 3Dmax scores, just after the ability to play games with all there settings on full

Metro eats gpus, and I've heard a few forumites say they've had to turn down the settings somewhat with their 580s

Metro 2033. Fantastic looking post apocalyptic FPS with ridiculous amounts of tesselation.

If you are after bang for buck rather than spending all the money a GTX570 and a cheaper motherboard with the features you need will see you fine.

Ok,
But spending 700 on a 'dead' socket just seems a bit of a waste to me.
I dont know too much about x58 so cant spec you anything but i still think you should go for Sandybridge.

Only the money for the motherboard is 'dead socket'. X58 still performs great, it hasn't suddenly got worse with SB's arrival.

The money spent on the 570 or 580 would be the same regardless of socket.
