Hey.

after a bit of drama the last few days my current q6600 system will no longer hold its overclock, its fine at stock but wont even do 1mhz over that even though it has sat at 3600mhz for a few years.

I currently have;

Q6600 g0
4gb Corsair xms2 ddr2
Gigabyte p35c-ds3r
Noctua nh-D14
Ati 5850
120gb vertex 2e
xonar dg
Corsair hx 520w psu
Lian li v2010.

I would like to go the 2500k root with the best bang for buck. I think the noctua will fit straight on but am worried about the psu.

Budget can vary but i would like it as cheap as possible, (dont we all?)

Thanks

The cooler will fit Sandy Bridge boards if it has the correct mounting for S1155 or S1156 as they use the same mounting holes.

Some of the ASRock Sandy Bridge boards also allow you to use coolers with a S775 mounting though it'll fit at a slight angle due to how the holes have to be placed on the motherboard.

@Tommy, That psu seems decent for the money, Anyone have a 520w psu or less with a 2500k?

@Surveyor Thanks for that, i just dug out the manual and it has s1156 mounting on the same bracket for s775 and s1366.

why are your worried about the psu ?

can't see you having any problems if its running your current setup ok.

just to be sure, you could try taking your CPU out of the mainboard, cleaning off the thermal paste and re-applying? Perhaps some of it's become a bit of a insulator now and is causing problems? Also, it might be worth resetting the CMOS on the mainboard and configuring the clock again, it might be that it's not supplying the voltage it previously was or something along those lines due to a CMOS malfunction.

I am worried that the psu aint man enough for a sandybridge upgrade.

I stripped the entire pc down to nothing, replaced tim on cpu and northbridge. flashed a new bios and reset the cmos. I am at a blank, may try a different divider on the ram.

Seems a standard 2500k system with my other components only draws 370 watt or so.

In that case, what motherboard should i get? i wont need sli and use a usb dac for sound.

That board only has a HDMI output for the onboard graphics. I think if you are planning on using the 2500K onboard graphics you should go for a board with a DVI out as well. If you're using your existing video card, it looks fine.

Ill be keeping my existing 5850. I dont mind splashing out a bit more on a board for any decent features or ease of overclocking etc.
