Lets say my mother bought a used 58 VW Golf Diesel automatic from a VW main dealer, with 28,000miles on it. On Monday.

It developed a fault with the gearbox where it was almost un-driveable, if the main dealer was given the chance to fix it and it still wasn't "right" what can be done?

Reject the car a possibility? a Saab convertible was taken in as part-ex.

Or is it a case of allowing them the chance to fix it until satisfied?

You have up to 1000 miles to exchange it usually with most main/franchised dealers. Not a full refund but an exchange of vehicle. I think in this case define what you mean by not "right".

Her words,

It jumps forward at slow speed like a cat pouncing, it rolls backwards uphills.

Sounds like a gearbox issue to me, why she didnt allow me to source her a nice Honda I will never know:rolleyes:

edit..she also said the dealer/technician took it for a test drive and instantly agreed that its not right.

The contract of sale will be with the dealer she bought it from

So what, does she want to create a faff and a load of hassle or does she want the car fixed? It'll have presumably a year of VW warranty being a VW approved car. Just take it to a more competent dealer, have it fixed, live happily ever after.

Insisting on your 'rights' can often lead to cutting off ones nose to spite ones face.

Has the first dealer actually failed to fix it yet?

To me your post reads as if they've not even tried yet, never mind failed.

Thanks for the less than informative post:rolleyes:

But its not what I am asking is it.

What? My post outlines what I beleive to be the best course of action for her.

But its not what I am asking is it.

What are you asking - do you actually want the car fixed or are you looking for any angle you can to get a refund so you can buy her the car you think she should have bought rather than the one she wanted?

Well actually I don't think it is the car she wanted as its Black and she said she wanted Silver, but thanks for presuming you know her thoughts.

I am asking if she decides to not want the car after all, what are her rights? is the info in the link correct, is what Panthro said about 1000Miles correct.

...with a bit of encouragement and a few Honda brochures casually left on the coffee table? :p

I could have picked out a bloody good Civic and had it given a thorough going over by the technicians at work to make sure it was tip-top, yet she buys a bloody Golf.

As the closest VW to her is in Helston, will they be accountable to have it transported to the next nearest dealer (which seems to be Indian Queens, a good 1hr+ away) if she wants it repaired somewhere else?

You didn't answer the first time but has this dealer actually failed to fix the car yet or even been given the chance?

Just seems a bit premature to be getting into demanding transport to other dealers and car rejections if the car comes back Friday morning and it's completely fine :p

Its being fixed now, but what if it all goes ****-up? I just wanted to know what sort of time frame (or apparently Mileage) any complaints need to be done by, what rights she has?

I've never had to do anything like this myself, just trying to collect info to email her as they live 3-4hrs away from me.

Yes, because presuming somebody bought a car because they wanted it is such a weird and wild presumption

At the moment? She has no rights to a refund. It's gone wrong, and they are trying to fix it. They need to fail to fix it on a few further occasions before she begins to have a chance of rejecting the car.

How much of this is her being unhappy and how much is you wishing she had a Honda? You seem to go on constantly about how she should drive a Civic because you prefer them.

She wanted a Golf, presumably and not a Civic, hence buying one. The Golf is a better car than the Civic so its probably best to focus on how to ensure she has a fully working Golf rather than bang on about Civics.

What exactly has the dealer done so far in rectifying the fault? Have they attempted to fix it yet? Have they claimed to have solved the issue? We need more information.

I would have thought chances are, they'll probably just fix it. I wouldn't get too fussed about what ifs until you actually need to cross that bridge - it's not as if it's a decision that would need to be made in a split second anyway.

It might not be a Honda but that doesn't necessarily mean the dealer is completely incompetent and the car won't be fixed :p

Apart from the two times mentioned in this thread, hows it "constantly"?

Would you guys just leave stulid alone.

He's a ******* genius when it comes to Hondas, he knows them like anything and has over 2 years direct experience with them, so it's understandable why he wants his mum to have a Honda aswell...

Look below :

P.s I spent two and a half years valet at honda distribution center at avonmouth, new and used.

:D Just trolling.
