Hi guys :)

Looking at upgrading my system slightly, want a bit better gfx on my machine.

Heres my current specs:

P4 3.06ghz cpu
1GB DDR1 RAM (2x512mb)
350w PSU
radeon x600 256mb

Its a fujitsu siemens scaleo p (from purple shirt land :p)

Now Im thinking a x1950 gpu and a 600w psu maybe?

Would my current cpu be ok with a x1950?

Help needed guys :)

If all your looking for is a big boost in gaming performance your p4 will be fine.
iirc your pc has an old radeon onboard graphics, does the motherboard definitely have a pci-e 16x slot?

X1950's are still worth looking at, in their price range there isnt much to touch them, but dont spend more than 70quid on a new one.

Trick is to make it a worthwhile upgrade but not go ott and find your gfx card is so fast your old p4 becomes a big bottleneck.

I like the new HD3800 range but there getting on for 100quid and maybe out of your budget and maybe not needed for your needs.

its not a bad idea to upgrade the stock psu, chances are it’s a substandard 350 watt psu. but you just dont need a 600watt psu, just grab a branded 400-450watt psu such as the Corsair VX450W.

Edit: Just noticed you don’t use the onboard graphics so you must have a gfx slot for sure, most likely a pcie x16.
