A little Worrying - Tyre issue

Well had a flat today and couldn’t see anywhere where it could have been punctured. Took it to get a new tyre on and they told me the bead had broken/split and wasn’t a puncture. Now i have to admit i did ride it on the flat for about 200 yards to get it to a suitable spot to change it but the damage was already done, wasn’t repairable. :(

They only had a few hundred miles done on them Toyos T1-R's which makes it even worse, had to fork out another £80 for a new one :(

Now I'm just worried it will happen again, they said they checked the alloy and it was OK, cleaned it up and made sure it was properly sealed so 'shouldn’t' happen again.

Has this happened to anyone? And did you ever find the cause of it?

Cheers

I would have kept it and contacted toyo and sorted something out with them, they are all quaility checked at every stage of production.

They took the tyre off my hands. How can the bead break though? i wasn’t doing any kind of serious cornering either. Could have been a dodgy fitment?

Well I had just replaced the track rod ends on both sides so the car was driven un-tracked was actually going to get it tracked today. The strut was kind of in pieces as well, was replacing top mounts. And the ARB link was badgered so was in the process of replacing that but wondering if all those things may have caused the tyre to break the bead. The ARB was causing a knocking noise but all those things put together couldn’t do something like that could it? At worst would just have caused the handling to be iffy.
