Hello all!

I'm looking for a particular type of song/music. I'm kinda into shoegazy stuff at the moment and I'm looking for music similar to the music used in this Planet of the Apes promo:

Like that or variations of would be great. I'm looking forward to some recommendations. :)

Might not be to everyone's taste but, meh, I'm into it so there.

Thanks!

M83 are the closest you will get to that synthy sounding music in the trailer.

But that is more Dreampop. A list of Dreampop artists.

My favourites are (in alphabetical);

A sunny day in Glasgow.
Asobi Seksu.
Bethany Curve.
Broken Social Scene.
Catherine Wheel.
Chapter House.
Chvrches.
Coaltar Of The Deepers (Japanese).
Cruyff In The Bedroom (Japanese).
Curve.
Daughter.
Grandaddy.
Hammock (Similar to M83).
Hum (You'd Prefer An Astronaut is my favourite album).
Jonsi & Alex (Jonsi from Sigur Ros).
Love Spirals Downwards.
Lush (Pioneering shoegazing band).
M83.
Mazzy Star (check out their track Fade Into You. Classic).
Mojave 3 (ex-guitarist and singer of Slowdive [another pioneering shoegaze band] is in this).
My Bloody Valentine (THEE shoegaze band that EVERYONE knows).
The pains of being pure at heart (latest album is more jangle pop than shoegaze / dreampop, but still a great band).
Pale Saints (another classic band).
The Radio Dept. (fantastic Swedish band, check out this track City Limit)
School Of Seven Bells.
Sigur Ros (no introduction needed).
Silversun Pickups (usually referred to as nu-gaze by the music press, fantastic band that I have been in love with since I heard kissing families years ago. Own everything they've released).
Slowdive (in the MBV bracket of EVERYONE knows about Slowdive).
The Sundays (best known for Here's Where The Story Ends, but their albums are great. I love them).
Team Sleep (this is a side project of Chino Moreno [Deftones] and Zach Hill [drummer and part of the defunct Death Grips]).
The XX.

I've only listed a couple of Japanese shoegaze bands there, but I have a **** ton of stuff I have and other stuff I have stuck in a text file I need to work my way through.

I'm going to suggest older music from delerium, you've likely heard of them due to the remix of silence but they were more 'darkwave' originally and albums like sphere seem very similar to the trailer music to me at least.

And maybe (long shot lol) even enigma or amethystium - not strictly what you're looking for mind but some of their music might fall into the style you're looking for.

Wow OhEsEcks, that's a great list, thank you. I shall start working my way through as well.

Clearly I don't know the difference between shoegaze and dreampop. Any help there?
Thank you!

In my opinion there isn't really a difference between shoegaze and dreampop. I mean, they're mostly both the same thing in that they focus on soundscapes, textures and atmospheres. But I tend to use the term shoegaze for heavier guitar based / pedal effects laced stuff with the jangly influence of late 80s and early 90s britpop bands and dreampop for bands and tracks that use more electronic synths and computer based elements in the production. Like, I would call M83 dreampop. But they're equally at home under the post rock or shoegaze label.

In the dreampop wiki article it even says...

In the 1990s, dream pop and shoegazing were regionally dependent and interchangeable terms.[3][4]

If you look at the lists of bands in dreampop, shoegaze and post rock, there are many listed in more than one sub genre.

There's a lot to go through guys, thank you! Glad there are some people on here into this stuff too.
