Hi, I'm not sure about a lot of you as enthusiasts tend to buy hardware a lot more often than the average gamer but for me buying a monitor tends to be a once in a blue moon event,

I've been wanting a superwide ever since the first 29" models from LG hit the market. I've been delaying the purchase waiting for bigger and better models and the release of 3440x1440 @ 34" seemed to be the sweet spot for me, However I was concerned about having the horsepower for that resolution with AMD's gpu's so instead I went for the 34" 2560x1080 model from Acer.

I have a few questions for anyone with this or similar 2560x1080 monitors.

I have a single Sapphire Fury Tri-x what are you using and how does it handle games at this resolution?

Are there any VSR options? My current 1080p panel offers 1440p & 4k etc so I'm hoping it might offer 3440x1440 for when I can manage it.

How is it for scaling?

And do you happen to know the working free-sync range, I'm guessing that as a 144hz panel it is a lot better than the 3440x1440 freesync models but have not learned what yet.

It's being delivered tomorrow but I'm concerned not going 3440x1440 as intended was a mistake, How's life with the panel been for you?

You won't be able to scale to 3440x1440, AMD don't support 21.9 VSR and I have posted in the amd driver thread many times before but matt doesn't comment on it so I'm guessing we won't be seeing it any time soon :o :(

Yeah, it's really strange that they don't support it. Maybe they've just not got the resources for it :(

That is a shame, still it sounds like it'll be a good 6 months or so before big Vega so I think 2560x1080 was the right choice for me now as I want too keep my fps at decent levels.

I almost caved and bought a GTX1080 instead but I'm glad I didn't now.

The monitor turned up yesterday and I spent the rest of the day setting it up and playing a couple of games, I will do a full review in a few weeks but here's some early thoughts,
First off after getting over the shock of how big the box is I noticed the box had it's seals broken which concerned me however I lucked out and not only was every thing as it should be inside but I also got a panel with no dead pixels, not one. The condition was also as it should be ie perfect, not a scratch, scuff or mark in sight so there's nothing to complain about there, just the opposite, I phoned in the order and received a free Sunday delivery which isn't part of the free delivery us forum users get so Kudos to OCUK for that too.

The monitor appears to be well built with a solid height adjustable stand, I came from a 27" 60hz 1080p panel so I was expecting the height of the panel itself to be the same but it is actually a lot wider that I thought it would be which is nice.
This is my first time with both 144hz and freesync, thankfully set up was a doddle I activated freesync in Radeon settings (wattman) and put the maximum frame limit to 140 fps. I've been unable to find out the panels working freesync range which is annoying but I plan to keep north of 50 fps until I do. I've only tried two games so far, STALKER Call of Pripyat and Borderlands The pre-sequel. Both supported 21:9 okay but the Borderlands hud adjustment settings did not allow me to push the minimap etc right to the edge which was a shame but I remember reading this in a review years ago so I knew it was an issue, I've got a lot of games ready to play and I will eventually make a list of games and whether they are 21:9 compatible. I've read there's a third party program for those that aren't and will also look into that in the future.

So,

Am I happy with the monitor?

So far YES, very.

I'm just waiting on Vega now :)

Great news man

At least when Vega arrives you'll be able to run the latest titles with a good dollop of AA ;)

Thanks, That's what I'm hoping, It'd be nice if AMD get vsr working for 21:9 too so I can use that in the future, For now I'm going to start testing some modern AAA's to see how the Fury holds out, Skyrim too, I imagine that'll look nice in superwide and I haven't played it yet :)
