Hey peeps,

I am currently a 3DArtist by day and an avid Destiny (PS4) player by night.

I am looking for a monitor which can fulfil both these needs whilst meeting the following requirments:

- IPS
- Pref resolution above standard HD (2560x1440?)
- Low ghosting/input lag (not sure if this is technically accurate)
- HDMI and DVI connectors

I was thinking a 27" as I like quite a big screen for gaming and also the extra screen space/resolution helps with 3ds max photoshop etc. I don't really see the need for 120hz or 4K.

Any thoughts?

Regards,

K

Yep, you can't really go wrong with a Dell. Tolerable ghosting, excellent picture quality, contrast, gamut, etc. And their Premium Panel Guarantee is excellent.

OK thanks guys, might be a bit over budget at £400 though. Anything that stands out at say £300?

I know that you get what you pay for at the end of the day but just thought I'd check. Also, 8-10 ms gtg, isn't that a bit high?

Cheers,

K

You're right down at the budget end of the scale for 27" IPS at £300. OcUK has the AOC Q2770PQU up for £299.99 here which looks good from customer feedback, certainly good enough for gaming.

However since you also have professional requirements I'd advise you check out TFTCentral's review here before making a decision.

With access to a good calibration tool this is probably the one that I'd choose. Otherwise its also worth looking at the second hand market for a deal on something else.

In that case, yes, go for the U2515H.

You can use these Dell monitors for years and years, so I would rather get a slightly smaller good one than a budget brand 27".

Thanks for al the advice peeps.

I totally agree, the Dell is the way to go, I'd rather have the smaller screen size but improved quality overall.

Cheers,

K

Just realised no-one mentioned the G2G. For IPS/VA tech screens, it's standard. They give you much better viewing angles and colour reproduction, but at the cost of slightly slower reaction times on screen (as compared to TN panels).

If you said you were a semi-pro gamer who plays Counterstrike and can tell when a monitor is slow, then maybe it would make sense to go TN in this instance, but for average person there's no way they'll notice the 8ms difference.

Anyway, the response time can be totally irrelevant if the screen has significant input lag (lots more about this on TFTCentral)

OK cool, I read TFT's conclusion regarding lag and they seemed to think that it would not present any real issue for gaming, which is good!

The u2515h is looking like the strongest option now. Hmmm, whether to go for broke and buy 2 at the same time :p

Cheers,

*update

Sorry, another thing, I totally forgot to ask if my GPU would even support 2x U2515H?

I have a Gigabyte gtx 780, the outputs are as follows:

http://www.gigabyte.com/products/product-page.aspx?pid=4621#sp

Obviously the card does not have 2xhdmi or 2DP but is it still feasible?

OK, from a little research it seems that I should be able to use the 780's DP out and then DP daisychain the 2 monitors and windows will handle that just fine.

Just want to check with you guys in case I'm being a little slow.

Cheers,

K
