a neverending boot camp cycle..

Hi there, in need of some advice - OCUK is always my first port of call for the tech stuff..

Macbook Pro, 2.5 Penryn/Santa Rosa; Leopard's up to date. Boot camp alongside a brand new [OCUK bought] OEM version of Windows XP SP2.

Boot camp allows me to select a new 32GB partition, which I then install windows to. I format it with FAT32 [so as to avoid the HAL.dll errors]. Everything seems to install fine - but then, after the usual 'your computer will reboot in 15 seconds' message, instead of carrying on with the Windows install, it goes back to the beginning! [You know, the initial blue screen with "press F6 to install a SCSI driver" etc etc.

It then goes on to recognise once more the partitions available, and recognises that there's a version of windows on the 32GB FAT partition. I've reformatted [the 'slow', not the 'quick' one this time] and reinstalled all the XP files onto it. Guess what! After the 'continue with windows setup' reboot, we're back to the "press F6 to install a SCSI driver" beginning again!

I'm obviously missing something - and I recall maybe having a similar problem when I installed an old version of XP onto one of my [now very old] new-build PC's....

Help me break the neverending cycle!!

Thanks in advance, Dan

Take the CD out of the drive when it says "rebooting in 15 seconds".. Then place it back in when you have to click a "next button" during setup...

thanks... I'll give that a try now....

I'd be humbled and embarrassed if it turns out to be so simple - I can't believe I didn't think of it!!! Anyway, if it works, I'm back off to computer school.....

I'll let you know in a moment... thanks again....

Dan

well, it worked - sort of!

After taking out the CD, it booted straight into OSX - but this time, by holding the Option key, I could see the alternate windows install, and once clicked, installation continued as it should. Previously, I couldn't boot into anything other than OSX.

So, thanks a million!

All the Best, Dan
