Hi guys, with my new job i have some extra cash banging about. Not much, mind you, so I'm trying to build a gaming rig for under a grand.
What do you think of these following specs? (I'm an AMD man I'm afraid, can't warm to Intel):

Abit Fatal1ty AN9 32X NF590 SLI, £110.44

AMD AM2 Athlon 64 5200+, £145.69

Zalman CNPS9500-AM2 AMD Aero Flower Cooler, £31.01

320MB BFG Technology 8800GTS Overclocked, £192.63

2xHitachi Deskstar 7K160 NCQ 80GB SATA-II 8MB Cache in RAID 0 (I never use too much space, sometimes have trouble filling up my laptops 100g HD), £61.08

GeIL 2GB (2x1GB) PC6400C4 800MHz Ultra Low Latency, £117.49 (this is one I'm not too sure on, was originally planning to get Corsair's dominator2 in pc6400, but it's about 50 quid more expensive. I plan on doing a little overclocking, but not a massive amount)

NEC ND7173 18x18 DVD±RW Dual Layer LabelFlash ReWriter, £22.31

Sony Floppy Drive - Silver, £7.04

Asus WL-138g V2 54G Wireless PCI Adaptor, 12.15

Thermaltake Soprano Silver Middle Tower Case With Window, £50.45

700W EZCool Infinity SLi pPFC Low Noise ATX v2.2 Dual +12v Rails, £41.11

comes to roughly 790 quid. Sorry If I've forgotten anything, I already have the 20 inch widescreen monitor. Any thoughts?

Well if you go for an AMD right now you are completely wasting all that money of yours. They are a total waste of money, the intel core 2 duo's are much better than AMD even at stock they can overclock insanely. You would be a fool no to go with Intel when they are leading in the market. My brother is even selling his AMD X2 rig because it holds no value and he can't overclock.

Seriously - forget your Fanboy nature.. Intel are the best*

* for the next few months or so.. anyway, we all know that no manufacturer stays top for ever.. except Microsoft :(

I know it sounds like ganging up on you, but I would listen to these guys.

I know exactly what you mean since I am a AMD man myself, but these guys convinced me that Intel is the way to go at the moment.

Besides, a quick search on the Internet (anandtech, tom's hardware, etc..) shows that the Intel is so much better at the moment that it isn't even funny.

Indeed would agree with the above, would be insane not to buy C2D it just blows AMD's offerings out of the water.

Coming from an AMD user, check sig :D

Ever since I started up I have invested in AMD setups but they just don't cut it at the moment. I was going for an AMD setup when I was upgrading, stupidly didn't even look at benchmarks AMD vs Intel etc. Soon enough though I was advised to move to Core 2 Duo and its definately a wise move.

No offence, but spending £790 on an AMD setup is a silly spend of money at the moment. There's no point on buying something because of it's name - go for the fastest hardware. And this isn't only slightly faster than AMD, it's a lot faster. AMD is only good for very low-budget builds at the moment :(

This setup is £824 , plus £30 for a cheap case.
