Normally go over the top - not familiar with that board/cooler though so cant say for certain.
A pic may help.
 
Well, the online (as shown by freddie64) and leaflet guide seems to suggest that I have to remove the backplate, so I think I will do that. Here is a picture of both back plates if it's any help:

I've just installed the heatsink and, fingers crossed, everything seems to be ok:

I'm about to mount the heatsink's fan but am not sure which way to position it. I can normally tell with fans, but the blades on this one have baffled me (which is easily done). I'm hoping to use it to push warm air from the heatsink out of the case.

Also, should I bother with the anti-vibration pins that came with the fan? Thank you for all your help and patience so far.

Anti vibratrion pins = no

top photo = sucks towards desk

bottom photo = blows towards desk

same way round as rear case fan seems good... air gets pulled from inside case through cooler then pulled out of back of case?!

If you have a look on the fan frame, next to where the cable comes out along the edge there are two arrows. One shows the airflow direction and the other shows direction of rotation.

Lots of debate on this one.

My fan is center mounted and pulls air from front and out of back towards rear exhaust fan where it is pulled (exhausted) out of the back of case.
 
Thanks again. I have one more question, but I should be fine for a while after this as I knew this would be my worst section. In relation to the adhesive part of the back plate, am I correct in assuming it should not be stuck directly to the motherboard but to the heatsink backplate as shown below. Again, I apologise if that's a stupid question. :p

just make sure that you affix the sticky side to the MotherBoard, and NOT the case itself

I'm assuming that it badly phrased?
 
Thanks for the link arknor. Though unfortunately I can't seem anything specific to answer the question. I just wanted to know if, in general, the adhesive sticker pad is applied to the directly to the heatsink bracket or to the motherboard? I just hope I haven't done anything stupid.
 
the sticky side of the backplate should be applied directly to the MoBo, that is the insulated part, and will prevent shorting out the MoBo. See the instructions at the top of the page, for the proper procedure

sounds like you just stick it directly to the motherboard to stop the mobo from possibly shorting out.

btw personally i wouldnt stick it to the motherboard if it screws on anyway i'd turn it around so it sticks to the backplate only if possible , aslong as its between the motherboard and the backplate it shouldnt matter
