A New Build with some old bits (Maybe)

Morning/Evening All,

After some news recently regarding my health I finding myself having to slow down and send more time at home and with this in mind I want to build a new PC to make sure I don't get bored.

My current system is this...

Naturally if anyone has any advice on the new build above I am all ears/eyes of course.

But the main things I wanted to enquire about were as follows...

Ideally I would like to use the SSDs I already have on the new build (the one being purchased above will serve as the Windows Drive). Will the current SSDs slow things down or will they be ok to use?
Will my current power supply be enough or would a fresh one be in order? Again, as above it would be nice to save a few quid but if a new one is needed than so be it.
Can I still get away with the Corsair C70 case? I love my current case and would prefer not to lose it if possible but I appreciate components (in particular Graphics Cards) just get bigger!

Hi

You will be able to use your c70 it has a GPU max size of 320mm so something to check.

Why 64gb if memory if gaming 32 GB is more than enough?

Personally I think you should be jumping on the new AM5 platform for future upgrade ability .

Maybe PSU its time for an upgrade how old is it.

CPU cooler get the Thermalright Peerless Assassin 120se it's the value/performance king .

yeah the spec isn't great tbh, and 64gb isn't really needed unless doing video editing etc

you can use your 860 as a games drive, hdd as your media drive but bh, you should sell your current system as-is and you could recoup some of the outlay for the new pc and just use new parts.

that's an enermax psu so it should be decent, but as above re: ssd, just get a new one and sell the old pc as a whole

One question, does that Graphics card offer much over the RTX4070? I have had awful like with ATI/AMD and would sooner roll with NVIDIA.

Fine, but if it was me, I'd probably at least buy a cheap M.2, like the SN570.

I don't know anything about that particular PSU, but the wattage should be enough for a 4070.

Reading the specs on OCUK makes my head hurt.

Roof mount 240mm radiator. 2x 120mm front. 1x 120mm rear. (from OCUK)
Form factor: up to and including ATX (from anandtech)
GPU max length: 320mm (from anandtech)
PSU max length: 180mm (from anandtech)
CPU max cooler height: 170mm (from anandtch)

Those should be doable, have to be careful with the graphics card choice.

To paraphrase this review, the 7800 XT is a bit cheaper, a bit faster (in raster) and has more memory, but the 4070 is more efficient, better at ray tracing and has a stronger feature set (for now, FSR 3 might change this).

I personally don't care and would be content with either card, but since the 7800 XT is a decent chunk cheaper and I don't want to pay more money for a card with less VRAM...

times have moved on since then lol.

A while back tamzzy I owned a 290 and whilst it wasn't a bad card by any stretch of the imagination it just kept getting the shaft when it came to drivers. Some games were damn near unplayable until drivers were released.

I just remember it letting me down once too often. Again, I do appreciate things can and do change all the time but Nvidia has never left me disappointed like that. It's petty I know.

All hardware drivers have issues from time to time. I have not had any major problem in the 10+ years using AMD GPU's but maybe I just miss the problems as I don’t mess with many settings. Also, I would not get an Intel [F] CPU as the price difference between the F and non-F is not that big and the iGPU can be very useful, but that’s just me.

Aye that's a fair point. I think I remember specifically games like Star Wars Battlefront and Wolfenstein Old Blood/New Order both ran terribly initially on AMD hardware and it just left a sour taste in my mouth. But fair play if I can save that sort of money and not really notice it then I will.
