A new GPU won't mess with linux right?

I have Windows for games, just wondering cause 1 hardware change can freak it out right? Not wanting to not be able to boot into GUI... I use the generic driver...

That's not been true for quite a while. Xorg now detects hardware when it's started, chances are you don't even need/have a config file now.

I am up & running 8 gig ram & new GPU... The CPU seems bad or something, my system powers on, the goes off soon after???
Intel Core I5 I5-3470 3.2ghz Fclga1155 6mb 4 Cores/4 Threads Turbo Boost Technol ot is used, but very good condition...

Why would you think it's the CPU?

If you've just upgraded the GPU and it's now doing it then it's more likely to be the PSU not providing enough power or dodgy GPU.
