a new ipod touch... anyone know?

i'm looking at getting my missus an ipod touch for her birthday which is on the 24th, and have been waiting patiently in anticipation of a new release (that buying guide on macrumours has said "don't buy - updates soon" for ages)... anyone know if there is a chance of it being released in time?

hopefully if they do release a 64gb version it will not cost an arm and a leg like the last original price of the itouch
