Looking at a new rig later this month and wanted some opinions on what I've chosen. I do plan on overclocking it.

  • HIS iCooler V ATI Radeon HD 5850 1024MB GDDR5 PCI-Express Graphics Card
  • Intel Core i5 670 3.46GHz (Clarkdale) (Socket LGA1156) - Retail + Napoleon Total War
  • Asus P7H57D-V Evo Intel H57 (Socket 1156) DDR3 Motherboard
  • Corsair XMS3 4GB (2x2GB) DDR3 PC3-12800C9 1600MHz Dual Channel Kit (CMX4GX3M2A1600C9)
  • Antec TruePower New Modular 650W Power Supply
  • Microsoft Windows 7 Home Premium 64-Bit - OEM (GFC-00599) Coolermaster HAF 922 Case - Black
  • LG CH08LS10 8x Blu-Ray ROM / 16x DVD±RW - Black (OEM)
  • Corsair H50-1 High-Performance CPU Watercooler (Socket LGA775/1156/1366/AM2/AM3)
  • Asus Xonar DX 7.1 PCI-Express Sound Card (90-YAA060-1UAN00Z)
  • Western Digital Caviar Black 640GB SATA 6Gb/s 64MB Cache - OEM (WD6402AAEX)

Also planning on striping the hard drives, but would a raid 5 arrary be better and what hdd would you recommend goes with those two 640gbs?

Thanks :)

First I would either go with I5 750 or a AMD build, personal I would go with the AMD build, you can save quite abit on the mobo and its more future proof.

AMD Phenom II X4 Quad Core 955 Black Edition 3.20GHz (Socket AM3) - Retail
Asus M4A89GTD PRO/USB3 AMD 890GX (Socket AM3) DDR3 Motherboard

Not to sure about the ram, I would say go with the OCZ gold, nice timing plus its cheap but some poeple have been having problems with it, albeit the triple channel version

OCZ Gold Low Voltage 4GB (2x2GB) DDR3 PC3-12800C8 1600MHz Dual Channel Kit (OCZ3G1600LV4GK)

Thanks guys,

I looked at an AMD build, but I do a lot of image editing, multitasking with Fireworks, Photoshop and other pieces software and from all the benchmarks I have seen AMD falls some way behind the Intel chips.

So is the i5 750 and quicker or just more overclockable chip compared to the 670? The price differebnce is not an issue at all.

Basically I have £2,000 to spend on a new pc with 2 24" monitors. (I need 2 copies of Win 7 and a cheap 2.1 speaker setup for another pc in the house.)

I don't wanna comment on this one...

Have you had a look at the six-core AMD chips, they seem better at mulitasking stuff compared to a i5 and in some cases even i7.
