a noob question perhaps (xbox360)

I hadnt played my Xbox360 for a few months until last week.
I got some update shortly after switching the console on.

I have some games installed to the hard drive.
When i boot a game up and run the game from the hard drive the first few minutes i can hear the disc drive spinning (annoyingly loud) then it stops and
the game runs from the hard drive.

Before the update the games would run straight from the hard drive
with a brief disc check.

Is this normal since the lastest update ?

Mine's exactly the same now. Some games worse than others. Gears of War 3, in particular, spins EXTREMELY loudly for a loooong time before it eventually stops.

I've only noticed this with Gears 3, I thought it was the game rather than the 360.

It's the new disk formats that do this. The format that has 1gb extra partition now used for devs rather than security.

Nothing to worry about, although annoying.

yeah i found the same and thought my xbox was broke with gears of war 3

I noticed this with Gears 3. Only played it online so far but it spins all the way to when I'm in the lobby just about to start a game. Mine's the slim so it's not that bad.

I get it with blackops, although the disc is scratched to the high heavens and freezes when loading certain maps, which might be part of it.
