A perplexing problem.

It seems my HTC M8 has somehow broken.

I didn't have phone signal all day yesterday. I assumed it was a problem with O2 (single transmitter here), but then realised everyone else on O2 was fine.
I put in someone else's simcard - no signal. Damn. Definitely the phone.

But during the day, it would connect to GPRS (only 2G here). Yet still show no signal.

I can manually search for networks - o2 comes up, and I can even successfully register on it.
But no signal ever shows up.
An app even shows that it's receiving signal!

Any ideas?

Spoke to O2. They said there is nothing wrong with the account. Looks like a very strange phone issue.

Just tried that - worked fine.

Very strange - still get a data connection though!

Have you accidentally barred / blocked voice calls on your SIM?

Your phone registers separately for circuit switched (voice) and packet switched (data) services. Showing a data connection while being camped for emergency voice calls indicates the voice side is unprovisioned / blocked.

According to Jessica (or whatever fake name our Indian friend chose), my account is in good standing. I tested with another phone this morning, and that worked fine - so perhaps it is a phone fault

My friend had this exact same issue but it was with the M7! Turns out the phone was duffed once it was sent back to HTC.

It looks like this might be the only option. Annoyingly, I bought the phone brand new at the beginning of this year. However, HTC show the shipping date as 30 months ago. I can't find the proof of purchase (cash & receipt), so it is showing as out of warranty. I wonder if they would give me a quote to fix it..?

Found out why

Blacklisted phone
Seems the guy who I bought it from has been naughty. Not paid his contract? Left me high and dry.

Bought in person. All I have are emails regarding the sale. EE wouldn't give me any details - insurance job or unpaid bill. I might call CAB tomorrow. If it's an insurance job, I'd rather give the phone up and get him in ****.
