A poor student needs a new laptop

Alright folk?

I live with a student who has just done the classic broken-the-power-jack-at-the-back-of-the-mortherboard. I've checked it and it ain't fixable even with resoldering the point because the actual port is damaged. Replacement motherboard isn't an option - far too expensive... and it was old as the hills anyway.

She's poor so I am looking for a cheap laptop to suggest to her. I was looking on hotukdeals but not really seeing anything all that good, anyone got any suggestions either for laptops or for good sources of cheap laptops?

It really doesn't need to be a gaming machine. We're talking the most basic stuff.

You normally take the port off and solder a new one in place, are you sure it's a write off?
